Machine for People Who Can’t Whistle
M4PWCW (vulgo: Machine for People Who Can´t Whistle) is a musical instrument devoted to solve some persons inability to produce sound while blowing air (vulgo: Whistling).
This interface was developed as an exercise for Tom Igoe’s Physical Computing class: the challenge was to find a problem and solve it with an adequate interface.
The team (Rui, Aislinn and Neilson) was inspired by childhood traumatic experiences resulting from whistling inability.
we developed a minimal interface in order to take advantage of the main actions from which whistling results (blowing air with your mouth). Pieces of paper attached to ‘flex sensors’ became an intuitive and responsive interface for the synthesis of electronic whistling.
